In this luxury, wine and food break, designed by Portugal by Wine, we invite you to relax and enjoy the Wine Regions of Bairrada and Dão.
The 5-night program includes a stay in 5* hotels, guided tours with wine tasting at 6 Bairrada and Dão wineries, and 4 regional meals, 2 in hotels, 1 in restaurants, and 1 in a winery.
Your stay in the Bairrada region will be at Bussaco Palace Hotel 5* hotel, a fairytale castle in the heart of the enchanted forest, which offers you the unique experience of staying in a royal palace, considered, since 1917, as one of the most beautiful, romantic, and historic hotels in the world. The palace was built from 1885 for the last Kings of Portugal, and is located inside the Mata Nacional do Bussaco, ex-libris botanist and natural of Portugal. The hotel's rooms are kept in old period settings to preserve the original beauty and atmosphere of the palace, which is why they do not offer some contemporary facilities expected in a hotel of this renowned.
The first day of the program will be spent at the hotel, where you will have time to relax, learn more about the history of the hotel and at the end of the day, you will have a regional dinner, suggested by the Chef, served in the hotel restaurant.
On the 2nd day you will visit the Adega Luis Pato. The Pato family has been producing wine in Quinta do Ribeirinho since at least the 18th century. João Pato began to bottle wine in 1970, becoming the first producer/bottler in the Bairrada region after its demarcation. You will know the Luís Pato Winery, located near Anadia, in the heart of Bairrada. At the end of the visit, there will be a tasting of wines and sparkling Luis Pato, which will end at the table of a local restaurant, in a lunch with the best of Bairrada gastronomy.
On the 3rd day in the morning, you will visit the Caves Solar de São Domingos, which since 1937, produce sparkling wines, old spirits, Portuguese grappa, Bairrada and Dão wines. Its cellars have more than two million bottles of sparkling wine, thousands of bottled wines, and hundreds of french oak barrels for its famous wine spirits. You will discover the charms of the Bairrada region and the Caves Solar de São Domingos, on a guided tour and a tasting of sparkling wines, accompanied by dry appetizers.
The lunch, typical of Bairrada, will be served at Quinta do Encontro, born of the dream and passion for wines, created in a vision of the exterior and interior shapes and lines of the structural design of a barrel that resulted in the perfect conceptual harmony between wine production and modern architecture.
To end the day, you will visit the Aliança Underground Museum, founded in 1927 in Sangalhos, Anadia, is a reference point in the wine sector Portuguese, with a well-defined strategy for wine tourism. Developed along traditional underground galleries, it features 9 permanent collections that deal with various areas. After the visit to the Museum you will taste 2 wines and 1 sparkling Aliança.
In the Dão region, the 2-night accommodation will be at the Parador Casa da Ínsua 5*hotel, the only Hotel Portuguese that integrates the prestigious Spanish network of Tourist Paradores. Located in Penalva do Castelo, about 30kms from the city of Viseu and 1h30 from the city of Porto, The Parador Casa da Ínsua combines the location and nature surrounding its history, Quinta da Ínsua and the route of the Dão wines, with connection to the natural park of Serra da Estrela. The atmosphere and refinement of the 18th century are always present in this charming hotel. Combined with the wine cellar, regional gastronomy productions and outdoor pools make Casa da Ínsua a destination in itself for a perfect stay or event at any time of the year.
In the afternoon you will visit Quinta da Taboadella, in a perfect setting for the practice of wine tourism activities, associating a history linked to wine. The winepress was built next to the vineyard is one of the oldest historical traces of winemaking technology in Dão and the strong connection to nature with the modern winery, authored by architect Carlos Castanheira, using materials such as wood and cork, and integrating ecological and sustainability assumptions. You will take part in a guided tour of the facilities and finished with a tasting of 3 Dão wines!
On the 4th day of the program, the activities begin at Caminhos Cruzados, located in Vilar Seco, Nelas municipality, Viseu district, is a winery of modern nature, fruit of a bold and unparalleled work, being nicknamed "The New Dão", due to its rebirth under modern jurisdiction. Here you will create your own Dão wine, batching and creating samples to reach your ideal wine profile. This experience is based on your creativity and inspiration. In the end you can take your bottle with you.
The program will end on the 6th day, after breakfast and check-out from the hotel.
